Oh wow. My first read after taking a too long break. So many thoughts running through my head as I read this absolutely brilliant poem. First, I am so glad it’s been published properly. It’s incredible. Second, I too have been a bit scared to actually read revelation due to not being able to understand or wondering if those promises are actually for me. Third, what a concept to think that we are keeping Jesus in his manger when He is meant to slay sin and demolish strongholds. I think I’ve kept Him in this category because the other seems too ominous. Shall I keep going? Fourth, I think you have renewed my curiosity to actually read the whole book and not just the pieces that serve me. I think that is all for now, but I know I will be re-reading this poem with a renewed sense of anticipation that the book of revelation is not some scary book that I need to avoid but actually embrace.
This is beautiful and rich. "beneath feet that march on time and water." Amazing.
And your last two lines- A powerful plea.
I am encouraged by the sincerity that pours from the composition notes- it makes me want to read Revelation start to finish in one sitting. Have I done that before? Large chunks, maybe in two sittings, but I don't think all the way through non-stop.
Thank you, Marie. I think that is my favorite line! The pairing of time and water delights me as if someone else wrote it. I wrote the first draft over 16 years ago now. How strangely time passes! Our writing can feel like time travel in this regard. Thank you for your encouragement.
